WF 2018 Charity: Waste Not Want Not
Waste Not Want Not uses horticulture as a therapeutic tool to assist a wide range of people, often disadvantaged, to feel included in their local community. Its main site is a four-acre Plant Nursery, The Roebuck, created on a disused piece of land on the border between Knebworth and Stevenage. Its second site is a garden within the North Car Park at the Galleria in Hatfield.
The organisation grow plants from seeds and plugs and also receive many donations of plants which would otherwise be thrown away from commercial organisations including B&Q, Rochfords, A1 Plants, Aylett Nurseries, and the RHS.
The wide range of people who benefit from coming to the project include referrals from the Living Room and The Haven in Stevenage, NHS Mental Health Services, MIND, those with Learning Disabilities who come with carers, secure hospitals and young offenders who attend with their own supervision. The main aim is to provide a safe and friendly environment where people can experience purpose and community.
