Street Parade

The annual Fancy Dress Parade precedes the Family Fun Day on the final Saturday of Welwyn Festival Week.

All the schools, nurseries and other children’s/youth groups of Welwyn Parish are invited to take part in the Welwyn Street Parade.  This is a colourful community event.

For 2016, our themes are Space and Olympics plus the Classic Cars, the Prams, Mexican band and Shire Horses will join the Parade at 1pm on Saturday 2nd July.

Annual Event details:

Check at your local school, nursery or children’s group for the costume plan for your group.

Everyone lines up in their school, nursery or community group.  Line up is at 12.45pm outside the civic centre on the second Saturday of Welwyn Festival week.

To ensure all children can be seen in the parade, the ratio of adults to children should be no more than 1:1.

The parade sets off at 1pm and progresses along Welwyn High Street to Singlers Marsh, ending at the site of the Family Fun Day.

Over the years, organisers have come up with a variety of themes, including:

  • Space & Olympics (2016)
  • Hollywood comes to Welwyn
  • Welwyn through the Ages
  • France – to mark the 40th anniversary of Welwyn’s twinning with Champagne-sur-Oise
  • Olympics (2012)
  • Characters from children’s books
  • Noah’s Ark
  • Cartoon characters
  • Music through the Ages
  • Animals theme
  • Pearly Kings & Queens and street traders
  • Circus theme
  • Carnival theme

If you have any questions about getting involved, please get in touch using the contact form, in the first instance.

Judging takes place at Singlers Marsh and heralds the start of the Family Fun Day.
