Volunteering

The Welwyn Festival Group is comprised entirely of volunteers with diverse skills and some who claim that they have nothing to offer but a willingness to help. People and time move on so there is always room for new helping hands and fresh ideas. Our ages range from young mums to old codgers!

The committee meets once a month from January until June then a couple of times in the latter half of the year. It’s not compulsory to attend every meeting (indeed, one of our longest serving committee members only turned up twice in the past year yet continues to complete tasks as required via internet communications).

Whether you want to throw yourself wholeheartedly into village life or just want something to do on Family Fun Day – we are more than happy to help you find your niche. Here is a tiny sample of some of the jobs that need doing every year: organising the street market, costume parade and family fun day; arranging signage and printing; arranging road closures for the street market and costume parade; inviting event sponsors and programme advertisers to part with money; setting up and taking down tables or marquees at the street market and family fun day; ensuring that the fields at Singler’s Marsh are free from ‘dog poo'; updating information on the web site and social media; arranging events in the diary so that they don’t clash; distributing posters, selling raffle tickets, carrying charity buckets in the parade; helping to decide which worthy causes to support, etc.

If you want to arrange a new event or activity, we’d love to hear about it and will give you the support you need. And…. the deal maker: you can wear a smart blue Welwyn Festival T-shirt if you want to assist at any of the Welwyn Festival Week events!!

To volunteer, either chat to us at the Street Market or use the contact form. We look forward to meeting you.
