Some are very small, some are major organisations
They range from people who look after the Mimram and Mardley Heath, to the Friendship Club and Stuart Road community support groups, to the Scouts in Welwyn and Oaklands, people caring for the disabled, both mentally and physically, the Isabel Hospice, MacMillan Nurses and the Stevenage Cancer Centre and Herts Air Ambulance.
We support the QVM, motorcycle volunteers delivering blood and breast milk, dogs for stroke victims and the disabled, homes in crisis support, over 80’s link up lunch club, riding for the disabled, firemen’s charity, the Film Record Society, autism and Alzheimer’s support, the Cat Survival Trust, local schools, the Playground Support Group, the Christmas lights and St John’s Ambulance.
As well as the groups we have supported directly, the Street Market and Fun Day provide a venue for local charities and community groups to raise funds themselves via stalls, or during the Week at their own events.
All of this is made possible by the generosity of the people of Welwyn who come to events, buy the Big Raffle tickets, advertise in this Programme, and contribute in many other ways.
It is also time for me to thank the hundreds of people that put on the 60 or 70 events during the Week and particularly the 30 plus people on the Festival Committee that give their time to help this all to happen.
Welwyn is a great place to live because of the community spirit that it has, as well as the beautiful surroundings we are lucky enough to enjoy here. Here’s to another 40 years of fundraising, providing we get new volunteers to keep the programme of events going.
