If you have passed Barclays Bank in the village this week you will see that the AED (Automatic External Defibrillator) has now been installed and will be commissioned in the next few days. This is the result of fund raising by St Mary’s Church and the Welwyn Parish Plan Action Group, and a not insignificant number of hoops through which the project team had to jump to make it happen!
This Sunday 26th June we have the Bishop of Hertford with us at our 9.30 am service in St Mary’s. At the end of the service the congregation will be invited outside, together with anyone else who would like to attend, for the Bishop to bless the AED. This will be at approximately 10.35 am.
The project team is very grateful to all those who have donated to make this possible and in particular to the four Welwyn businesses who stepped up to the plate, Putterills, Neel Dentistry, Mimram Vets and Susu, along with many very generous individual benefactors. In particular we would like to thank the Welwyn Wailers who gave a substantial donation from this year’s Wail. We will record all this in an article in the September Welwyn Magazine.
It is also worth saying we are well on the way to raising sufficient funds for a second AED for the civic parish of Welwyn and the project team will meet in early July to debate where it should be located. As part of the deal the Community Heartbeat Trust will provide some training and we will advise about that when known. However, the AED is designed to be used by anyone who witnesses someone in cardiac arrest in conjunction with calling 999.
If you would like to contribute to the fundraising you can inquire at St Mary’s Church or send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org and we will pass it on.
