Space at the Welwyn Festival 2018
Local space expert, Jerry Stone FBIS, will be returning to this year’s Welwyn Festival. At the Fun Day on Saturday 30th June, Jerry will be helping visitors build and launch ‘pop’ rockets. Then that evening, to round off the Welwyn Festival, Jerry will be giving an entertaining talk at 7.00pm in the Small Hall of the Civic Centre. His talk will be aimed at families and is entitled ‘Space is Big’. It will involve lots of audience participation as he explores the solar system using inflatable planets. Find out how far it is to the Moon, and how many planets we really have – not the number in the National Curriculum! He will have copies of his book about the Moon landings, “One Small Step” (£15) which he will be happy to sign. It’s been described as “perfect for 8-year-olds of all ages”! Sir Patrick Moore said it was “Marvellous”.
Jerry Stone has given presentations on space since 1969. He runs Spaceflight UK, and has spoken at venues that have included The Edinburgh Festival, The Royal Institution, The British Science Festival, The Palace of Westminster, Sir Patrick Moore’s garden, and a rock festival! He is described as “one of the leading speakers on space exploration”, and is often interviewed on Sky News and BBC 3 Counties Radio.
